Launching our Masterclass series: A behind the scenes look
Streaming services have changed the way we consume media, and they continue to evolve with the times. At the forefront of this evolution is our streaming service, which not only offers our in-house films but now also Masterclasses! The first masterclass has just been launched, and it has been expertly filmed to offer our subscribers a high-quality viewing experience.
What is a Masterclass? A masterclass is an online course that offers in-depth learning opportunities from experts in a particular field. It's an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to learn from the best and gain a deeper understanding in a particular subject.
Our first masterclass is all about biodynamics, taught by award winning farmer Charlie Arnott and world renowned biodynamics educator Hamish Mackay. The masterclass consists of several video lessons that cover a range of topics, from understanding the theory behind biodynamics through to implementing it out on farm or in the garden.

What sets our masterclass apart from others is the high-quality production value.
For the technically minded: We wanted to give Charlie and Hamish a soft cinematic look so we used 1/4 strength mist diffusion on all cameras. For composition we centred Hamish in the screen to provide a sense of authority when covering theory with a slider on our B camera to provide movement, we used a Forza 720 as our key light with a Godox 300VL for backlighting, we then added in a 1.2m/2.4m negative fill to add a little contrast to Hamish. We went for a more relaxed framing when out in the field, we used gimbals for when in motion however kept the field shots fairly loose to bring viewers in with us on farm. Shooting outside proved to be a challenge, it was a very hot and sunny day and we had no choice but to be filming in the middle of the day, we had a 2m/2m overhead 1.2 stop scrim to defuse the light which was a tight squeeze however we made it work. The results we think are fantastic!
